Work and play back in Port Douglas

So have now got back into the swing of housekeeping again – it’s now something I know in my sleep! It is nice to be earning some money again, and it is not as busy as my last stint at Sea Temple, so going well I feel. I have also spent time with everyone in the house again, went to a pub quiz (we came second!), ice cream evening with Paul and Ellie and a relaxing afternoon by the pool at the Sheraton with Jason. We also managed a house night out with dinner (Mexican!! yum) and drinks which was lovely and does not happen often enough! (more…)

Mackay BP Truckstop

First solo blog post!

Firstly I apologise for the very (very) late blog post, I have been quite busy and its actually hard to write one of these yourself if its not habit!

I just spent some time in Canberra being with my family, where I soon found I was at the point of needing an income or I wouldn’t be able to last out here much longer! Thankfully after speaking to my old boss at Sea Temple I had my job back and was given a start date. My next dilemma was making sure I could get from Canberra all the way back up to Port Douglas, this time on my own! I had to get a few bits replaced on the car first which was frustrating as I was hoping to not have to spend anything on the car, however with the car running well enough to get up to Port Douglas I then had to plan my route up. East Coast Madness

So we’ve finally started to make our way down the east coast from Port Douglas after a rather sad farewell to the place and people we have completely fallen in love with. We had a lot of emotional goodbyes as we were not only leaving Nicola’s family, who also took me in as their own, but all the people we had met and befriended in Port Douglas. My Bally Hooley family were also hard to leave and it was difficult swinging by the depot on the way out of town to say goodbye to Peter who’d taken the role as my Port Douglas Grandad whilst I was in the area!

Time to Leave Port Douglas!

Another over due blog I’m afraid, but I am sure they will be more consistent once we get on the road tomorrow and start heading south again! It’s hard leaving a place where we both feel so at home, but I am sure we are both going to find ourselves back up here sometime in the not too distant future. It’s been a few weeks since the last blog and we’ve mostly spent the time working to top up our travel funds, but we have also managed to find time to get out and enjoy Port Douglas and Far North Queensland before moving on with our travels.

Time to Top Up the Kitty

This blog is a little brief as we’ve really just been trying to act like grown ups and top our our funds over the last few weeks. All of Nicola’s visiting relatives have made their way on wards or home so it’s finally time to knuckle down and earn some money, whilst enjoy Port Douglas of course. I’ll do my best to write an update without talking about too many of the dull bits, but that doesn’t leave much!

Everybody leaves Cairns!

This week was our second and last week with Jason before he headed down to Adelaide to begin his solo adventures through Australia! It’s also our last week in Cairns before moving up to Port Douglas to stay with Nicola’s cousin Paul and so we have been using our time when not with Jason to sort ourselves and the car out before we go to Port Douglas. Jason Comes to Cairns

We’ve really made ourselves at home over the last couple of weeks in Cairns and have taken the opportunity to travel up to Port Douglas regularly visiting Four Mile Beach and the picture perfect town. This has lead to a few relaxing beach days and finally getting some time to play around in the water before the stinger (jelly fish) season starts in a couple of months. (more…)
